The Retail of Alcohol Standards Group (RASG) is a committee of highstreet off-trade alcohol retailers who meet to exchange best practice in the responsible retailing of alcohol and to cooperate to reduce the incidence of alcohol sales to minors.
RASG was formed in October 2005 following disappointing test purchasing results. It is coordinated by the WSTA.
RASG developed an Action Plan with four main aspects:
1) to reduce opportunities for children to buy alcohol;
2) to build effective partnerships between retailers and enforcement agencies;
3) to develop intelligence-led enforcement techniques;
4) to better understand why underage sales are made and how best to prevent them in the future.
RASG’s work is fully supported by the Home Office, the Department of Culture, Media and Sport and the Department of Health.
