Allergen Labelling
The European Commission adopted, on 30 January 2008, a Proposal for a revision of the current food labelling rules. If adopted, this Directive would introduce mandatory ingredient and nutritional labelling across the EU states. The Proposal – which has political agreement and will be debated in the European Parliament – exempts wine, spirits and beer from the need to label, although it is intended that the position will be reviewed after five years. All other beverage alcohol products will be subject to mandatory labelling three years after entry into force of the new Regulation in about 2009, i.e. by c. 2012.
